What is the difference between a monitor and a transmitter?

A monitor (like the 3500/42M) lives in a protection rack: it drives alarms and trips locally and reports to the DCS. A transmitter (like the 3300/65A) packages the full measurement chain in one loop-powered device and delivers a 4–20 mA signal straight to the PLC — no rack, no trip logic, lower cost. Monitors are for machines where the trip decision must sit in the protection system; transmitters are for smaller machines where the PLC handles alarming. Both have their place, and we stock both.
